KGB Group Australia incorporates both KGB Protective Coatings Pty Ltd and KGB Coating – Site Services.  We are an Australian Company founded in Newcastle in 1965. KGB Group Australia are world leaders in the application of high performance anti corrosion industrial coatings. Our applicators are experienced in coatings and linings used extensively in the Oil and Gas, Shipbuilding, Mining, Marine, Petro Chemical, Power, Infrastructure and Structural Steel industries.

 

Our Company Management System is implemented across both arms of the business and ensures that Quality, Safety and a risk management approach are assured for all of our projects. Our established facility at Rutherford offers project delivery from start to finish with in house grit blasting and undercover painting 24 hours per day, 7 days per week.

The production area is our blast and paint facility at Rutherford (KGB Protective Coatings and Site Services)

  • Our facility is in excess of 3,200 square meters.
  • 2,800 square meters under cover including one blast chambers and painting area with the remainder as hard stand, with a further 1,300 square metres of under cover including one blast chamber and painting area with the rest hard stand area to be completed later in 2024.
  • KGB’s Protective Coatings facility employees’ staff, trades, non-trades, and transport personnel. This facility is running at approximately 80% utilisation.
  • KGB’s Site Services facility has a current workforce of staff and trade personnel. We perform total project delivery in this business division, including structural and mechanical repairs therefore removing the demarcation risk between onsite trades and suppliers from our clients.

The size of the blast and paint facility allows for large volume throughout and due to the location, this can be performed 24 hours a day 7 days a week without interference or disturbance with surrounding neighbours.

  • Our facility has approximately 440 square meters and is home to our KGB team.
  • KGB has become industry leaders in the removal and disposal of hazardous materials especially in areas such as garnet recycling and disposal, and nonhazardous product cleaning of painting equipment.

Accreditation:

  • KGB has Level 2 to 6 PCCP accreditation being one of only a few in Australia with this accreditation. This allows us to remove all types of carcinogenic materials including asbestos.
  • We also have ISO9001:2015 quality assurance.

  • Port Waratah Coal Services: Surface Preparation and Painting of key infrastructure for Newcastle’s key export port.
  • Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group: Surface Preparation and Painting of infrastructure to link in the Australian coal export market.
  • SGM Fabrications: Surface Protection for new and modified infrastructure.
  • IMF: Conveyor gantries for multiple mine sites.
  • Australian Defence Force: Surface Preparation and Paint in situ fuel systems for the Australian Defence Force in Malaysia. Surface Preparation and Paint works on the warship defence project for FORGACS. Surface Preparation and Paint in situ fuel tanks for the Australian Defence Force Scherger RAAF base Weipa far North Queensland.NET: Surface prep and paint Education Department structural steel classroom module shells. Surface prep and paint Education Department assembled classroom module interiors and exteriors.
  • UGL Limited: Industrial Coatings for major projects and shutdown works.

KGB’s management teams combined industry related experience is in excess of 300 years.

 

KGB has access to the latest industrial equipment through alignment with major equipment suppliers whereby utilising both on the job practical experience along with laboratory R&D the safest and most efficient equipment, materials and methods are implemented on our projects.

Rod Halls

Managing Director

KGB Group is Rod’s baby and he looks after it with great care.  Rod brings over 35 years experience in the coatings and blasting Industry. Oversight and supervision of projects including Anzac Frigates Department of Defence Contract, Sydney Trains Projects including Sydney Tunnels. Project Manager/Managing Director Dec, 2004 until current.  Rod strives to optimize operations, reduce costs and improve service quality while strengthening the longevity and sustainability of the business. He is results driven while always ensuring corporate governance and his focus on safety for all remains paramount.

Grant Humphries

Compliance WHSE QAS Manager

Grant has over 30 years’ experience in management, business and project works. He is experienced in managing large workforces of up to 150 people, industrial blasting and painting, rehabilitation projects and retail management. His key priority is ensuring that every project undertaken is completed to both KGB and client standards. With responsibility for managing Compliance WHSE & QAS within the business, his key skills include project management, business management, time management, and work flow prioritisation. Key Qualifications: Occupational Health and Safety and Return to Work Coordinator, Fire Safety and Emergency Procedures, Hazardous Paint Management Certification, Auditing, Project Management.

Garry has over 60 years experience in the Painting and Protective Coatings industry. His key skills lie in his strong interpersonal skills and developing long lasting relationships with many clients within the industrial world.
